Fake Godmen performing miracle healings in India

I just would like to share a story and make aware:

India is a very big country and we have more than a billion people. Most of them live in the country in small villages and many don't have access to good education. Many cannot read or write and they officially sign just by fingerprint. The belief in religion however is strong especially in those areas. It is belief which mixes with fear of evil spirits, dark powers and other negative energies that can harm you. Every disease, an allergy, epilepsy and also miscarriages are believed to be caused by something mysterious like that.
And this is how especially in those areas Gurus who do healing miracles and can shoo evil spirits away, are welcomed with open arms.

People bring their ill family members to them and give them as much as they can afford in the hope that they can help. A poor couple's daughter is having bad fever and they bring her to a so-called Godman and in their despair they give him all of their money and savings if he can just help her. He keeps her with him for some days, maybe weeks, saying that he will do ceremonies to get the evil spirits out of her. He makes some drama, some blowing and some mixture of water and herbs, some fire with incense. Sometimes, after several days or weeks, the girl gets better. The parents are happy, they believe it is the godman who helped, who could convince the 'good Gods' to help their daughter. He has supernatural powers and power over demons.
And what was this miracle healing all about? Just time and the natural healing process of the body. The young girl's body was fighting a virus or an infection, she had fever and her body needed all strength for this fight but it succeeded, it won and she became healthy again.

This is how people are being exploited, how those cheaters become rich with the money of poor ones, mainly due to a lack of education and medical supplies. This is how people believe they have supernatural powers. This is how innocent people are being made fools. It is sad and we can just tell people about it so that they become aware.

"Swami" I am happy to see your opinion to all these miracle healing powers. While traveling to south India I saw one incident like this, a sadhu was giving some blessed sweets "prasadam" to all visitors and his disciples were taking money for that. I and my friend were also forced to take it and give some donation for this spiritual man. We did give some donation but did not eat it because the basket in which the sweets were had many bugs and it was smelling bad already. We also do not really believe in this all but we did not want to have a big discussion or any trouble so we just gave some money and took the sweets and went away from there. Later we just threw away the sweets and I am very sure that if we had eaten them we would surely have got ill.
Most amazing was that I saw in that crowd of people many educated people who spoke with me and told me his miracle stories. I don't understand, how can people become so blind.

This scam really pisses me off!!!!! If people can manifest dust or heal the sick then why can't they manifest money to give to the sick so they can be healed or manifest food for poor children. Why can't they do something good with their money that they are getting from scamming these poor people. Why is it that most of these guru's don't do anything but build more temples and get into trouble with their money. Please everyone STOP giving money to rich, fake guru's. If you really want to HELP search for people that are doing good in this world and support their projects.

Here are two good videos from YouTube showing just that...one with a professional group that goes around with a professional "godman" who does "miracles" - after which they reveal how the tricks are done in an attempt to educate the villagers, and the other which shows how Sai Baba used stage magic to "manifest" ash and a golden lingam. Enjoy!

Prasadam should be given freely. It is not for sale nor one asks for donation for offering prasadam. If it is sold it is no more called as prasadam.
"They are the great, truly they're the great,
On His lotus feet, who concentrate.
    Though they are illiterate
    Them I cannot rate
    'Cause they are always great.
So, at their lotus feet, I myself prostrate."
