Our first non-Indian fake guru! Well – nearly. Niem Mohammed obviously claimed that he had divine spiritual powers and came from a sacred part of India. But actually he was born and raised in Liverpool.
In Sandwell Mohammed now has to face court because he said he could help people with marriage problems, improving their work lives and help if they have the wish for a child. Basically he told people that he could work miracles. Mr Barry Berlin seemed to disagree, especially with the prizes for this help and that is how Mohammed now has to prove that he is not a fake guru after all! Well, actually he has to prove that he did not have anything to do with the ‘15 charges of fraud, blackmail, obtaining property by deception and procuring the execution of valuable security by deception’ that were filed against him.
‘The jury was told how one childless couple handed over £9,650 after Mohammed guaranteed they would fall pregnant with his help.’
He allegedly started charging £50 and then quickly raised the prizes, threatening people that he would send ghosts to their homes if they did not pay. And of course the money went into his own pocket.
‘The jury was told the charges spanned from August 2005 to January 2008.’
Let’s see if we will hear more about this Western guru in Indian style.
